With Hamilton Loomis, 7 p.m. Monday, December 20, at House of Blues, 1204 Caroline, 888-402-5837 or www.hob.com/houston .
It dawned on us the other day that many of our favorite Christmas songs are also blues songs: Texas City native Charles Brown's "Merry Christmas Baby," "Santa Claus Is Back in Town," "Please Come Home for Christmas" and "Run, Rudolph, Run," to name a few. No doubt Gulf Coast guitar master Hamilton Loomis knows a few of those — he did study at the foot of the one and only Bo Diddley, and soaked up the knowledge of Gatemouth Brown, Albert Collins and Johnny Clyde Copeland to boot. Still only in his mid-30s, the Galveston native and Katy resident (when he's around) most recently released last year's Live in England, which fullmoonblues.com confirmed has "plenty of funk, soul, blues and groove." Unlike House of Blues' other "Blue Monday" installments, Monday's show does cost $10, but proceeds go straight into the Houston Blues Society's stocking.
