Do something a little different to start off 2011 and join artist Emily Sloan for a Funeral Party for the Living. Sloan, who bills herself as an "internationally unknown artist," says the event is "a time of reflection on new beginnings and the passing of time." Partygoers will be able to use their time at the podium to read eulogies and notes, burn personal items in a funeral pyre, sing songs of remembrance or make confessions. Everyone is encouraged to wear funeral-appropriate attire and, best of all, bring something for a funeral potluck. 5 p.m. 14 Pews, 800 Aurora. For information, call 713-592-1198 or visit www.thelivingwake.blogspot.com. Free.
Sat., Jan. 1, 5 p.m., 2011
