reasons to be pretty
The idea of beauty and its worth is at the center of reasons to be pretty, currently making its Houston premiere at Theater LaB Houston. Things start when Greg makes a careless remark about how attractive a co-worker is and goes on to add that his own girlfriend Steph lacks a pretty face. That remark gets back to Steph (ouch!). Things get worse when Greg's friend Kent and his wife Carly add their opinions. Soon the foursome is facing a crisis, fighting their way through a twisted knot of infidelity, betrayals and lies. Called a comic-drama by Theater LaB, reasons to be prettyis startling and often brutal in its honest examination of the worth of beauty and society's obsession with physical appearance. 8 p.m. January 5. 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, with additional performances at 5 p.m. January 23 and 30 and 8 p.m. February 3.
