With a Dream Asleep and Southbound Saints, 9 p.m. Saturday, January 8, at Rudyard's, 2010 Waugh, 713-521-0521 or www.myspace.com/rudyards.
We can't think of two more balls-out hard-rock bands in this quadrant of Texas than our own Hell City Kings and Austin's White Rhino, and both bands have plenty on their plates in 2011 to prove it. This show celebrates the release of their first split single together, which comes free with admission to the gig. Early 2011 will see both bands finishing up recording albums and readying a variety of new releases. HCK has a new album in the can already for a summer release and plans on doing a series of seven-inch splits with a handful of like-minded bruisers throughout '11. We've known the towering, Motörhead-influenced men in White Rhino since their first fearsome Houston debut in January 2009, and this year is all about recording and touring, with a stack of songs and extensive trekking on the East Coast coming in the spring.
