Houstonites usually dont socialize much with Dallas folk, but for the sake of art, we might just have to put the competition aside. At least, thats what Charles Dee Mitchell envisioned when he curated Disturbance of Distance 2,the second in an ongoing series of exhibits connecting Houston to surrounding arts communities, this time with our neighbors to the north. The works on display at Disturbance are every bit as diverse as their respective cities. Houstons Daniel McFarlane describes his work as raw paint forms that are both abstract and controlled, while Dallass Mary Benedicto makes patterned video paintings and Sunny Sliger contributes work constructed from shreds of fabric. Benedicto and fellow artist Val Curry will provide music for the exhibit opening, performing as Binary Sound Machine. Opening reception 7:30 to 9 p.m. January 15. Regular viewing hours 1 to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Through February 19. Box 13 ArtSpace, 6700 Harrisburg. For information, visit www.box13artspace.com. Free.
Saturdays. Starts: Jan. 15. Continues through Feb. 19, 2011
