Nancy Geyer has won tons of awards for her plays, including a super-prestigious nomination for a Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. Now Houstonians will get a chance to see the work of this hometown writer at Country Playhouse with a new production of Sonia and Suzy, a tale about an actress who wants a relationship with the daughter she gave up long ago for adoption. Claire Hart Palumbo, the shows director, says, Its a two-person play about a woman who is turning 50. Shes a big, successful Broadway actress, but shes at that time in her life when the types of roles shell be playing are changing, so she initiates contact with the daughter through the adoption agency. The initial visit is complicated by the fact that the daughters never been told she was adopted. The rest of the play arcs over the next ten years of the difficult mother/daughter relationship. Its a wonderful story and a wonderful showcase for two actresses, says Palumbo. 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, through January 29. 2 p.m. January 23 and 7:30 p.m. January 27. Country Playhouse, 12802 Queensbury. For information, call 713-467-4497 or visit www.countryplayhouse.org. $20.
