“WYSIWYG, a site specific community interactive installation by Wendy DesChene”

Artist Wendy DesChene has been working with hundreds of co-collaborators on “WYSIWYG, a site specific community interactive installation by Wendy DesChene.” The installation grows and changes at each stop along its countrywide tour, as it includes additions to the piece by local communities. For example, while “WYSIWYG” was in Cincinnati, 200 elementary school kids visiting from Kentucky drew imaginary creatures. DesChene then enlarged those drawings onto canvas, which in turn were painted by high school and college students in Alabama. Those images have become part of the installation visitors will see in Houston.

More artwork will be added while DesChene is in town; she plans to work with local high school and college students using a variety of materials including donated stuffed animals. Via press materials DesChene says the exhibit is “a B-movie monster, eating away at the gallery walls and Frankensteined by my own reactions to art materials, audience, environment and critical reactions.”
