NOFX has been in business going on almost 30 years now, since lead singer/bassist Mike "Fat Mike" Burkett and guitarist Eric Melvin founded the band in 1983. As much as punk has changed over the ensuing years, the band has kept their same attitude, still singing about the scatological, while taking on political and social mores, especially during the Bush 43 administration. Out of 11 studio LPs, a handful of live albums, and countless singles and EP's, it's hard to pick favorites, but newbies should start with 1994's Punk in Drublic. Coaster (2009) was one of the strongest and most mature efforts of NOFX's career, with Fat Mike detailing the death of both of his parents just a few months apart on "My Orphan Year." Last year's The Long­est EP culls most of the past two decades of extended-plays into one disc, and features Mike's alter ego Cokie the Clown. You may remember Cokie's infamous appearance at Emo's during SXSW '10, where he tricked fans into thinking the samples of his own urine he had passed out were tequila shots. Needless to say, Emo's isn't allowing him back anytime soon.
