Miro volík, Colin Blakey and Gilbert Garcin: “A Matter of Wit”

When’s the last time an artwork made you laugh? “Wit and humor are among the rarest and most precious aspects of creative expression in almost any field of art,” says FotoFest Artistic Director and Senior Curator Wendy Watriss. But that’s not so at “A Matter of Wit,”a collection of images by three artists — Miro volík, Colin Blakey and Gilbert Garcin — that employ wry visual humor. In her review of the show, our Kelly Klaasmeyer described one of volík’s works saying, “In a wonderful series from the ‘80s, the artist staged scenes on the pavement below his studio window. In one, a man lies flat on the ground, legs posed as if he is running, his back bent and his arms held out behind him to seemingly support an unsupportably tall stack of books that stretches over the pavement.” 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Through February 27. 1113 Vine Street. For information, call 713-223-5522 or visit www.fotofest.org. Free.
Mondays-Fridays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturdays. Starts: Jan. 13. Continues through Feb. 27, 2011
