Jo Koy

Recently back from filming a Comedy Central special and rounding off a cross-country tour, Jo Koy arrives at Houston on the brink of comedic stardom. His energetic charisma and dead-on cultural observations have endeared him to fans and led to sold-out shows internationally. He attributes much of his dynamic, feel-good style to his heroes — Bill Cosby, Robin Williams, Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy.

Koy has said, “The best comedy is about truth, talking about real life,” and his own family life is often the focus of his humor. His wildman son and demure-but-devious mother are both frequent fodder for Koy. You can’t call his comedy clean, but aside from ample uses of profanity, his jokes never deprecate or attack their subjects. 8 p.m. Thursday; 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The Improv, 7620 Katy Freeway. For information, call 713-333-8800 or visit www.improvhouston.com. $25.
