For the past 22 years, Mark “Scrapdaddy” Bradford has had an entry in every Art Car Parade, but “Mark David Bradford: aka ‘Scrapdaddy’” is his first showing at the Art Car Museum. In fact, although Bradford’s work has been seen across the globe, he’s never had an actual solo exhibition anywhere. Each piece is comprised of 100 percent recycled material the artist found scavenging through scrapyards. No matter what he finds, his motto never changes — “I work with what I got,” he says. For example, Cable Guy is literally made from cables, wire, steel and a dump truck’s back end, while Cher de Love is constructed from a Ford V-8 engine, hydraulic and pneumatic gears, stainless steel, copper, brass and about 3,500 work hours. Don’t miss the larger-than-life-size sculpture Self-Portrait, which depicts the artist pedaling a bicycle. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Through April 24. 140 Heights Boulevard. For information, call 713-861-5526 or visit www.artcarmuseum.com. Free.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: Jan. 29. Continues through April 24, 2011
