Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3

Pianist Jonathan Biss was destined to become a classical musician, it seems: His mother, a violinist, performed a solo at Carnegie Hall while pregnant with him. Now 30, Biss has established himself as a sought-after artist, and today he’ll join the Houston Symphony and conductor James Gaffigan to perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3, a powerhouse of a piece that ranges from delicate trills to fortissimo explosions involving the whole orchestra. They’ll also perform Dvorák’s Symphony No. 7 and Ives’s Symphony No. 3, The Camp Meeting. 8 p.m. Thursday and Saturday, 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana. For information, call 713-224-7575 or visit www.houstonsymphony.org. $25 to $116.
Thu., Feb. 24, 8 p.m.; Sat., Feb. 26, 8 p.m.; Sun., Feb. 27, 2:30 p.m., 2011
