Compagnie La Baraka

French-Algerian dancer and choreographer Abou Lagraa doesn’t tell stories onstage. (He considers that old-fashioned.) Instead, he uses abstract movement to tackle abstract ideas such as the soul or emotions. Lagraa studied ballet in Lyon’s National Conservatory of Dance, and though he credits his classical training for providing him key skills and knowledge, he has now largely set classical ballet aside.
