DiverseWorks Artspace hasnt produced its once-annual 12 Minutes MAX! performance in a number of years, but the organization is bringing it back or at least hosting it again. Dance Source Houston is actually producing the event, which features the work of five choreographers presenting new works, works-in-progress and excerpts from 2011 Houston premieres.
Curated by DSH founder Christina Giannelli, the program includes an unusual video snippet from another DSH contributor, Toni Leago Valle. Im showing a new piece, which is one section out of a new work that Ill be premiering in May called Cocoon, says Valle. Its a video, because it was done with a pregnant woman who was ready to deliver, so it was either a videotape or nothing at all. Its my first dance video. She also contributes Drowning, a solo excerpt from Baptism, which chronicles a womans downward spiral.
Valle says the group show is a way for dance artists to make some easy waves in a community thats expanding. Theres definitely a need for more places to show peoples work, she says. There are new choreographers emerging, and this is a venue where they can show a piece and not be overwhelmed with the burden of producing a whole show. 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday. 1117 East Freeway.
