“Dodransbicentennial”

It was just 175 years ago that our glorious state declared independence from Mexico, sealing it with a victory at the Battle of San Jacinto. To celebrate the anniversary, Koelsch Gallery is presenting “Dodransbicentennial,” an exhibition named after this numerical milestone with work by Texan artists.

The works range from Ellen Frances Tuchman’s collage of historical kitsch honoring the Yellow Rose of Texas; to Claire Cusack’s sculpture made of barbed wire; to Camp Bosworth’s three-by-six-foot sculpture of a carved wooden gun inscribed with the phrase “Mi Vida Loca,” which folds out into a ‘50s-era bar; to Melinda Buie’s series of cartoonish cows painted on brightly colored backgrounds. There’s an opening reception 6 to 9 p.m. March 3. Regular viewing hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Through April 3. 703 Yale. For information, call 713-626-0175 or visit www.koelschgallery.com. Free.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: March 3. Continues through April 3, 2011
