Austin’s favorite filmmaker, Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Poltergeist), made what he called his “hippie movie,” Eggshells, in 1969. Described by Hooper as a mixture of Andy Warhol’s Trash and Walt Disney’s Fantasia, the film was once considered lost. Well, it’s been found. Eggshells had its resurrection last year at Austin’s SXSW Film Fest and now is part of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s Texas Independents series. Full of psychedelic colors and equally colorful editing choices and experimental sequences, the film chronicles the lives of a bunch of kids living together in Austin. They share a house, many, many drugs and each other. There’s also a ghostly electronic pulsing presence in the basement, but it gets lost in the larger counterculture overtones. 7 p.m. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet.
