“Storied Beads: The Art of Teri Greeves”

Artist Teri Greeves turns everyday objects into art in “Storied Beads: The Art of Teri Greeves.” Colorful, beaded Converse tennis shoes depict intricate scenes of modern Native American life, while a deer-hide umbrella, Indian Parade Umbrella, is decorated with characters marching in a parade. Also included are two small clutch bags and a wall cabinet. Using her work to reflect her proud cultural heritage, Greeves mixes something contemporary with what is, as she says, “tradish.” 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Through March 31. University of Houston - Downtown, 1 Main. For information, call 713-221-8042 or visit www.okanegallery.uhd.edu. Free.
Mondays-Saturdays. Starts: March 4. Continues through March 31, 2011
