Boasting one of the richest musical histories of any city, from early swing to cutting-edge free jazz, Chicago was the stomping grounds for venerated performers like Benny Goodman, Albert and Gene Ammons, Dinah Washington, and Frankie Laine. An octet led by Delfeayo Marsalis (yes, one of those blowin and honkin Marsalises) will pay tribute to the city and its players in Divas Jazz Salon: Chicago today at the Hobby Center. Marsalis will also provide commentary during the show, giving the audience an insiders perspective about the citys jazz styles, influences and place in music history. 7:30 p.m. Bagby. For information, call 713-315-2525 or visit www.-divasworld.org. $25 to $35.
