The Texas Folklife Center is scouring the state for the best young accordionists ages 21 and younger in The Big Squeeze 2011. And it doesn’t matter whether they play zydeco, Western, Cajun, conjunto or polka. Winners in Houston will advance to the semifinals, and finalists will ultimately play the Accordion Kings and Queens Festival at Miller Outdoor Theatre in June. Cash, gigs, recording sessions and squeezebox groupies also await the winners. The 2008 winner, Tex-Mex conjunto master Johnny Ramirez, and 2010 champ, zydeco monster Keyun Dickson, both hail from Houston and will be performing following the auditions. 7:30 p.m. Eldorado Ballroom, 2310 Elgin.
