All of Rice was put on probation for alcohol abuse but — this being Rice and all — "alcohol" was not defined to include beer and wine. State Senator Mario Gallegos went off on Houston school superintendent Terry Grier at an Austin hearing, and Grier later had to backtrack from a claim that no general-fund money was spent on his pet Apollo 20 program. Grier also backed off from turning Lanier MS into an IB program, and he delayed his controversial plan to revamp the district's magnet schools.

The debut of the iPad 2 had us examining what cutting-edge entertainment technology was like 40 years ago. For spring break, we examined the vast differences between male and female overnight hookup supply kits. And since Charlie Sheen refused to go away, we looked at five things he should give up for Lent and also had an expert analyze his terrifying astrological chart, because surely only astrology could explain whatever the hell he's doing.
Crime
The coverage of the Cleveland gang rape by The New York Times and the Houston Chronicle came under criticism for seeming to blame the victim; Chron editor Jeff Cohen said people were blaming the messenger and not the people who were quoted giving those opinions. A serial rapist was on the loose in the the west and northwest parts of Harris County, law enforcement officials said, and a Deer Park man who was arrested for illegally livestreaming sporting events got some support from the Web.
