Oscar Wilde wrote, “Sooner or later, we shall all have to pay for what we do.” That’s certainly true for the characters in Wilde’s stage comedy An Ideal Husband. The story opens with a group of genteel and upstanding guests at a posh dinner party, each of them with a secret. The action covers a scant 24 hours, but by the time the guests gather together toward the end, each of them has been forced to confront a painful truth. While the subject matter — honor vs. dishonor — might not seem to be typical fodder for comedy, Wilde’s witty dialogue and satirical skewering of social hypocrisy give Husband humor with a real bite. 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
