Theth Sambath was just ten years old when he fled Cambodia in the late 70s, after his parents were killed in the Khmer Rouge genocide. They were among an estimated 2 million people who per-ished from a combination of famine, torture and arbitrary executions. Sambath, who became a prominent journalist, returns to his countrys dark past as co-director and star of Enemies of the People. The film follows his decade-long search, in Cambodia, for the truth about Khmer Rouges activities, which for years remained undocumented. Interviews with lower-level Khmer Rouge soldiers reveal details about murder tactics implemented in The Killing Fields, designated murder sites and mass graves. Sambath gains the trust of Nuon Chea, a.k.a. Brother Number Two, who served as second-highest officer in the Khmer command, and someone that Sambath holds responsible for his parents death. After 30 years of silence, Chea opens up about why so many perished. They were enemies of the people, he says. 7 p.m. Sunday, 4 p.m. Monday. 14 Pews, 800 Aurora.
