Lisa Lampanelli

Think of acid-tongued comic Don Rickles in a flowered dress and high heels, and you have an idea of what to expect from Lisa Lampanelli today. Like Rickles and shock jock Howard Stern (a big Lampanelli fan), the large-boned comedian is outrageously rude and drop-dead funny at the same time. Nothing is off limits for Lampanelli. Not race (she often stops her show to ask a black or Asian member of the audience to validate a stereotype), not her active sex life, and certainly not the dictates of polite society (Lampanelli never met a rule of etiquette she didn’t instantly break). But for all her rough, tough exterior — if she ever quit comedy, she could become a longshoreman — Lampanelli has a commitment to the truth on stage. However rudely she says it, it’s what audiences are too politically correct to say themselves. 8 p.m. Verizon Wireless Theater, 520 Texas. For information, call 713-230-1600 or visit www.livenation.com. $39.75.
