“Picturing the Senses in Europe”

Some 15 paintings and ten prints make up the exhibition “Picturing the Senses in Europe,”currently on display at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. The works, which are mostly from the 16th to the 18th centuries, explore images, both allegorical and realistic, that evoke the five senses.

Highlights of the show include two works by Rembrandt, A Man Drawing from a Cast (1641) and The Goldsmith (1655), both of which show artists at work. Two paintings by Jusepe de Ribera are also worth noting. One shows a blind scholar touching the face of a sculpture, while the other shows a man holding a wine-filled cask. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 12:15 to 7 p.m. Sundays.
