Juan Villareal

Spend your Cinco de Mayo laughing with local comedian Juan Villareal. He’s usually on the road touring with folks like Carlos Mencia, but he’s coming home for a three-night stand at Comedy Showcase. Villareal calls himself “a down-to-earth fucker,” and fans find the tag appropriate. While other comedians do political satire or character-based comedy, he finds his jokes in everyday life.

Not that he’s above throwing a jab at President Obama every once in a while; that’s just not his main focus. Villareal’s much more comfortable — and funny — talking about what he does sitting in his living room. He’s the guy next door (if you happen to live in a really bad neighborhood) who’s funny as hell.

“Texas rats are tough,” he says. “They don’t run like them other punk rats run behind the refrigerator. Texas rats just walk in the living room, all calm, like, ‘Hey, homes.’ If we were watching TV and the rat was sleepy, he’d come out of his hole and walk around all mad. I’d tell my brother, ‘Don’t say nothing, just leave him alone.’” 8 p.m. Thursday, 8 and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. 11460 Fuqua. For information, call 281-481-1188 or visit www.thecomedyshowcase.com. $15.
