More About

Psophonia Dance Company will explore tragedies of all kinds in its aptly named mixed repertory concert Rip in the Atmosphere, premiering today. Sophia L. Torres has choreographed a dance of bodily disaster in Body Blind, based on neurologist Oliver Sacks’s patient studies. Torres also contributes The Cranes Are Flying, based on Japanese legend and echoing the recent devastating earthquake there. Sonia Noriega performs an experiment on our perceptions with Flip-Flop, three identical solos danced by three different dancers, to different selections of music. And Toni Leago Valle — her company 6 Degrees is a special guest on Psophonia’s program — confronts the catastrophes of childbirth and parenting with Cocoon, a series of three real-life mother-child duets: Jenny Dodson and her unborn son, Pierce, Stephanie Henderson and her eight-year-old daughter, Sonia Rodriguez, and Joani Trevino and her teenage daughter Cecila Sotomayor. 8 p.m Thursday through Saturday, and 7 p.m. Sunday. Barnevelder Movement/Arts Complex, 2201 Preston Street. For information, call 713-802-1181 or visit www.psophonia.com. $14 to $18.
May 12-14, 8 p.m.; Sun., May 15, 7 p.m., 2011
