What becomes of a broken heart? Well, in the case of the “Museum of Broken Relationships” art exhibit, it just might go on display. Items like a wedding dress and an “I Love You” teddy bear take on unique meaning when placed within the context of a failed romance. So, instead of burning a pile of your ex’s stuff or running it over with your car, why not make the rage and bitterness last a lifetime and donate a symbol of your failed relationship to a museum display specifically designed for such artifacts? Yes, there is such a thing.

The Museum of Broken Relationships was started roughly five years ago in Zagreb, Croatia, when Olinka Vitica and Dra en Grubiic ended their own relationship and decided to memorialize it. The Blaffer Art Museum at the University of Houston will host a two-week exhibition of objects from the museum’s permanent collection, alongside ephemera donated by Houstonians.
