After youve networked through Houston Comicpalooza this weekend, learning how to survive a zombie attack, live a Steampunk life, and role-play through Vampire 102 (all legitimate workshops, by the way), youll be primed for Summer Wars, a family-friendly anime film from Madhouse, one of Japans most prolific animation studios. This 2009 cartoon, an international semi-hit and a top-grosser in Japan, teamed the artistic talents from Madhouses former successful sci-fi The Girl Who Leapt Through Time: director Mamoru Hosoda, writer Satoko Okudera, and character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto. The sumptuous visual overload of Summer swamps the little story of geeky Kenji, who unwittingly breaches the security of the game-playing world and must save the real world from destruction and find love at the same time (think Tron). The movie has won numerous animation awards at film festivals all over the globe, so Kenji must have opened the right portal. 7 p.m. Saturday, 5 p.m. Sunday, 1 p.m. Monday. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-639-7515 or visit www.mfah.org. $6 to $7.
Sat., May 28, 7 p.m.; Sun., May 29, 5 p.m.; Mon., May 30, 1 p.m., 2011
