Sick Puppies

With Cult To Follow and Dmitri's Rail, 7 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at Warehouse Live, 813 St. Emanuel, 713-225-5483 or www.warehouselive.com.

Lately, it seems Australia has been doing some of the heavy lifting when it comes to making catchy modern rock for the radio masses. From Seether to Wolfmother and the recently departed Silverchair, Aussies have proven they know their way around an alt-rock fist-pumper, and Sydney's Sick Puppies are the newest group to hit American shores. Armed with a breakthrough single, 2010's "You're Going Down," the band hit the radio-festival circuit with gusto, barreling down crowds with songs from 2009's Tri-Polar, which has now spawned four hits, including the anthemic "Maybe." There's not much reinvention going on, but through the use of YouTube and other social-media avenues, the Puppies have managed to endear themselves to rock fans with a feel-good vengeance.
