The Spits' last run through Houston included a booze-glistened set upstairs at Rudyard's with fellow scuzzy garage rockers Nobunny. This time the band returns for another round with TV Ghost and locals White Crime and Cop Warmth down for support. Together for about a decade, The Spits have released a slew of damaged, straightforward, aggressive Devo-inflected albums, one-off singles and split singles with the likes of the Briefs and pop-punk daddies NOFX. The band is known for wearing costumes onstage, anything from mummies and Taliban fighters to astronauts. As the band said in a recent interview, "Everyone's doin' the whole Stooges/MC5 shaggy-hair, tight-jeans, scream-and-rip-your-shirt-off thing, and that's boring." The Seattle band also has a knack for putting out inventive merch — a buddy of ours scored a sweet Spits watch at that last Rudz gig.
