Fancy costumes and chintzy music aside, David Alan Grier admits Dancing with the Stars kicked his ass during his 2009 stint on the show. Grier tells us the physically demanding rehearsals felt like being in a bar fight every night. “Physically, it felt more like I was in [mixed martial arts] than ballroom dancing!” With his busy schedule, it’s a wonder Grier had any time to compete in the ABC reality show. Grier, known as DAG to his fans, has a full schedule doing the rounds on talk shows, guest starring on network television series, taking his turn on Broadway (he got a Tony nomination for his performance in David Mamet’s Race), and writing bestselling books, such as his recent Barack Like Me: The Choco-late Covered Truth. At the center of all this is his stand-up, the Saturday Night Live alum will be performing in Houston this weekend. Talking to us from Los Angeles recently, Grier shared his main concern about Houston: the weather. “What’s it like there now? I just remember Houston as being hot, hot! And they had all these unfinished highways that went to nowhere.” When informed that the city is experiencing re-cord-setting temperatures and droughts, and that city’s roadways are still under construction, he offers up a sarcastic, “Great, I can’t wait!
