It was early in the morning on June 25, 2006, that Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit was captured by Palestinian militants. For the five years since then, he has been held at an unknown location in Gaza, a bargaining chip for his captors as they negotiate the release of Palestinian prisoners being held in Israel.
Filmmaker Tal Gorens documentary Family in Captivity takes viewers beyond the political aspects of the situation and instead focuses on the Shalit familys duel struggles to free Gilad and cope with his imprisonment. It also explores Gilads journey from anonymous soldier to national symbol, something he never wanted. 7:30 p.m. Jewish Community Center of Houston, 5601 South Braeswood.
