Meanwhile, Cody Arnall's sculpture is appealing for the sheer strangeness of it. The artist cut up and assembled together a plastic gas can, a sconce shade, a metal bucket, a top hat and a basketball — everything stitched together with zip-ties. He then attached the whole thing to a bent piece of conduit shoved into a broom handle. The result is this Frankenstein-like consumer object — as if all the crap in your garage came together to get you.
With over a hundred other works in the show, there's a lot of good stuff that I didn't get around to. Venture over to Lawndale for yourself. By then winners of the exciting cash prizes will have been announced. Part of the fun of the Big Show is rejoicing or grousing over the winners.
