David Lynchs Blue Velvet (1986) is arguably the most important American surrealist film of all time. A funny, mysterious and freakish film noir, it follows greenhorn college student Jeffrey Beaumont (Kyle MacLachlan) as he investigates the origins of a severed human ear he finds in a field. His obsession leads him to the dark underbelly of the suburban, Norman Rockwell-esque town of Lumberton and almost gets him killed.

The cult classic contains several quotable lines, most of them spoken by the late Dennis Hopper, who plays the villain Frank Booth. Among them: You stay alive, baby. Do it for Van Gogh, and Ill fuck anything that moves! Theres also the chilling threat, You know what a love letter is? Its a bullet from a fucking gun, fucker! But no Blue Velvet quote is as popular as Franks response to Jeffreys favorite brand of beer. Frank asks, What kind of beer do you like? Jeffrey utters the unfortunate word Heineken. To which Frank bellows, Heineken? Fuck that shit! Pabst! Blue! Ribbon!
In celebration of Blue Velvets 25th anniversary, The Alamo Drafthouse is serving up the film along with some brews. Yep, the theater is stocked up big time with PBR. Expect a hearty laugh and collective toast when Hopper gives his onscreen endorsement. 6:30 p.m. 532 South Mason Road. For information, call 281-492-6900 or visit www.drafthouse.com. $7.
