“Valentin Gertsman — 30 Years in Art”

Russian-American photographer Dr. Valentin Gertsman has made a career of architectural photography. Born in Russia, Gertsman fought Fascists as a Red Army soldier during the Siege of Leningrad at the age of 17. After his time in the army, he started a family and trained to become a doctor and surgeon. When he left the country in 1974, he settled in Houston. Gertsman was initially drawn to what most Houstonians tend to overlook and completely circumvent while cursing rush-hour traffic: urban construction and architecture. “Valentin Gertsman: 30 Years in Art,”now on display at the Russian Cultural Center, will showcase his famous photographs and books as well as sculptures and drawings.
