More About

There won’t be a Bollywood film in sight at the 3rd Annual Indian Film Festival of Houston, but there will be so many great contemporary Indian films in other genres, fans will hardly notice. The five-day festival will screen nine features and shorts. There’s the compelling drama Fatakra, by former Houstonian Soham Mehta, which examines the fiery reunion between a man and his wife and son when they finally join him in America, after three years on their own in India. The experimental The Magic Man chronicles the efforts of a vaudeville magician to use the dark arts to win him fame and wealth. And the offbeat documentary It’s Cricket, No? follows the Indian National Blind Cricket Team as its members chase victory. Screening times vary. Studio Movie Grill, 805 Town & Country Lane. For a full schedule, call 713-260-9630 or visit www.iffhinc.org. $7 to $10.
Sept. 20-24, 2011
