“Found”

The beauty of the artwork seen in the new Canal Street Gallery exhibit “Found,” according to the gallery’s director, Valentina Atkinson, is that while the pieces are created from similar materials — bits of rubber tires, leftover Christmas decorations, scraps of paper — the results are unique reflections of the individual artists. “The same thing means something different to whoever picks it up. So even if we use the exact same things, we each create something that is our own.” Eighteen artists are represented in “Found,” including Candice Goodwin, who contributes Silver Slick III, made of aluminum screen and wire.

There’s an opening reception 6 to 9 p.m. September 23. Regular viewing hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Through October 22. 2219 Canal. For information, call 713-223-2219 or visit www.canalstreetgallery.com. Free.
