"Fourteen"

Think of "Fourteen"as an artistic version of affirmative action. The exhibit features the work of 14 female artists in an attempt to showcase the talents of women artists who, although numerous, are woefully underrepresented in Texas galleries and museums. Julie Zarate, recently named to the Houston Press blog Art Attack's 100 Creatives, is among the participants. Her paintings have an illustrative bent to them with a dose of photorealism, while her mixed-media work includes repurposed materials. Most often her subjects are - can you guess? -women.
