He was only 16 years old when famed conductor Leonard Bernstein plucked him from obscurity to make his debut with the New York Philharmonic. That was some 40 years ago; since then, legendary pianist André Watts’s fairy--tale beginning has long been overshadowed by his illustrious career. Much in demand as a performer of Romantic Era music, he’ll join the Houston Symphony today for the stirring program Watts Plays Beethoven’s Emperor.
