More About

He was only 16 years old when famed conductor Leonard Bernstein plucked him from obscurity to make his debut with the New York Philharmonic. That was some 40 years ago; since then, legendary pianist André Watts’s fairy--tale beginning has long been overshadowed by his illustrious career. Much in demand as a performer of Romantic Era music, he’ll join the Houston Symphony today for the stirring program Watts Plays Beethoven’s Emperor. At the podium will be conductor David Afkham. 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana. For information, call 713-224-7575 or visit www.houstonsymphony.org. $25 to $123.
