The Dominic Walsh Dance Theater opens its tenth-anniversary season with the spectacular Fall Mixed Rep. Among the new work being presented is Come un Respiro by Italian choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti. Set to classical music by Handel, Come un Respiro uses a distinctly unclassical vocabulary, with angular movements punctuating the works strong elegance. Adding even more spark to the new works is Stefania Figliossi, who created the role and will be performing it here. (Shes now a DWDT company member.)
Former Houston Ballet favorite and frequent Walsh partner during his days with HB, Lauren Anderson appears in The Dying Swan. The program also includes a revival of Walshs Katharsis, which premiered during the companys first season, and the Houston premiere of Walshs The Whistling, which features Cuban music from the 1940s.
Oh, did we mention that DWDT just won the Houston Press Best of Houston® award for Best Dance Company? Just thought wed throw that in. 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Hobby Center, 800 Bagby. For information, call 713-315-2400 or visit www.dwdt.org. $25 to $85.
