The Rapture has returned, fully rested and inspired to a scene that it broke wide open with 2001's Out of the Races and Onto the Tracks. The band came along as a lively indie-dance band with a dour bent, just as electroclash was getting a footing in the clubs and twentysomethings were ready to dance again. The single "House of Jealous Lovers" has been called one of the most influential of the past decade, although its parent album, 2003's Echoes, doesn't quite get the love that it deserved, with some calling it a letdown. Same story with 2006's Pieces of the People We Love, which led to the band going on an extended hiatus of about four years. Luke Jenner joined a gospel church choir in his Brooklyn neighborhood, and bassist Mattie Safer left to pursue a DJ career. This past August the band released its first album in five years, In the Grace of Your Love, featuring 11 predictably gospel-tinged dance-floor anthems, and the band is now being welcomed back with open arms by the blogging world.
