Moss Hart is best known for the charming plays he wrote with George Kaufman, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning You Can’t Take it With You, but his solo scripts also shine. Light Up the Sky is Hart’s love tale to 20th-century theater. First produced in 1948, this sweetly sentimental view of the theater is a story about the struggles of a playwright and his brand-new show. There is, of course, a play within a play, and the critic is never very nice. But this funny, action-packed backstage comedy features a host of familiar theater types. There’s a temperamental actress, a silly, money-hungry producer’s wife, a self-involved director and an earnest playwright. Throw in a Swedish masseur and a drunken Shriner and you’ve got a stage full of the sort of wacky characters that make Hart’s imagination so funny and so beloved. See Light Up the Sky at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 3 p.m. Sundays. Through October 30. Pasadena Little Theatre, 4318 Allen Genoa Road. For information, call 713-941-1758 or visit www.pasadenalittletheatre.org. $14.
Fridays-Sundays. Starts: Oct. 14. Continues through Oct. 30, 2011
