Another weekend, another outdoor music festival. This is getting to be pretty common around Houston, and were not complaining. In this case, the inaugural BMC Block Party looks like a pre-Thanksgiving feast of beats, a ghoulish array of rap, dubstep and freaky Houston noise-rock just in time for Halloween and even a haunted house up the street at the Ponderosa. Taking over the Last Concert Cafe Praia Urbana-style, the event peaks with a performance by Houston Street King MC Trae the Truth, with San Fran dubstep maestro Antiserum riding point and showcases from Swisha House records and the Texas Dub crew. Familiar Houston names strewn throughout the lineup include Female Demand, Caddywhompus, Balaclavas, Zeale, the Niceguys, the Manichean, Giant Battle Monster and Muhammadali not a feel-good potential pop hit in the bunch as well as DJs Ceeplus Bad Knives, Mr. Castillo and Fredster. Atlantas Werd2jah tries to keep a handle on the whole thing as host. See more information at the Block Partys Web site listed above.
