Heights Burglary Ring Busted
Don't brag on Facebook, kids

By John Nova Lomax

An alert area resident and diligent Central Patrol officers have taken in a quartet of Heights miscreants they say broke into four area homes recently.

Police say Nathaniel Dean Cook, Octavius Demone Harris, Eli Marquez Ortiz and Everado Segura broke into and stole items from three homes on Oxford Street and another on Beverly, all within school/work hours. All have been charged with two felony counts of burglary of a habitation and a felony count apiece of engaging in organized criminal activity.

Police say they would case the homes by looking in mailboxes and noting when there were no cars in the driveway. They would then knock on the door, and if they got no answer, would gain entry by either crawling in through an unlocked window or kicking in the back door. In many of these types of cases, HPD spokesman John Cannon says, one or more serves as lookouts, another will drive the car and the other will do the actual breaking in.

Police are investigating the possibility that the crew could be responsible for as many as 30 similar burglaries in the area dating back to April.

Their downfall came when a witness saw them taking items from a home on Beverly Street; that person called cops, who were able to apprehend all of them without incident. Numerous items believed to be taken from the homes were allegedly found on their persons or in their homes.

"Another day another Dollar," Segura Facebooked on October 13. Three weeks before that, he had this to say: "We dont even count the money no more we jst blow it spend it all up we do even count the money we jst throw it." He celebrated his 18th birthday in the Harris County Jail. He was already on probation for a felony theft conviction he racked up this summer.

"H.O.E...Heights Ova Everythang! It aint no click just anotha moto!" enthused 17-year-old Ortiz on September 30, the same day he offered up this thug wisdom: "My true potnas just can't be found nomo! Das why my moto is fuck friends.. My only dawg is Benjamin Franklin! Huhhh already.."

Eighteen-year-old Cook, who either dropped out or was kicked out of both Waltrip and Reagan, calls himself "Big Cook Da Heights Hustla" and refers to himself as a "nigga" even though he's white. He's already been convicted of evading arrest in big boy court despite graduating from the juvie leagues in June.

All Rhodes scholars in the making...

Cannon says Central Patrol's officers went above and beyond in apprehending these suspects, but his hat is also off to the resident who phoned in the incident.

"We really wouldn't have caught 'em this week if it hadn't been for that witness," he says. "People hear us say, 'You need to be our eyes and ears' all the time, and how that works was never more apparent than in this case."

He also advises that people buy alarm systems, or failing that get a dog or bolster security on your back door with a double-bolt. If a stay-at-home neighbor can help by bringing in your mail and/or newspapers, that would also be a deterrent, he says.

VY's Big-Time Strip-Club Ways

By Richard Connelly

Former Madison High and UT Longhorn Vince Young has been sued by the strip-club employee who last year said he'd been beaten up by the Eagles quarterback.

Back then he said it was because he had flashed an upside-down Horns sign, but in a suit he's filed in Dallas, Creiton Kinchen makes a different claim: VY was pissed, he said, because Kinchen would not give him $8,000 in one-dollar bills.

Make it rain!! (Very cheaply.)

Says the suit:

Creiton was working minding his own business in the "cage" area dealing with an employee on credit card issues, when suddenly and without provocation, an intoxicated Vince Young began cursing and making derogatory remarks to Creiton because Creiton refused to sell Vince Young $8,000 (Eight thousand dollars) in $1.00 (One dollar denominations) using Vince Young's credit card. It was Vince Young intention to use the $1.00 bills to tip and throw money at the dancers who would entertain him and his party that evening.

Maybe the story will change again at some point. But for now, let's just wallow in the wonderfulness of imagining VY big-timing it with a decadent display of tossing around Benjamins Jacksons Hamiltons Lincolns Washingtons.

It could have been worse: He could have asked for quarters. That might not have been too dangerous for the dancers, though, seeing as how VY's tosses would likely miss the target.

Child Porn Was Relaxing, Man Says

By Richard Connelly

Bennie E. Richardson IV, a 40-year-old Pasadena man, has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for possessing and distributing child pornography.

Looking at the porn was a form of relaxation, he told cops when he was arrested.

Richardson was arrested in 2008 and was found guilty last month, but more details about his case came today from the U.S. Attorney's Office. As is often the case, they're repulsive, so make sure you want to read ahead.

Mr. Lomax - Good article and glad they were caught. Would you take a look at the Oak Forest neighborhood Facebook page to view the hyper paranoia that is occurring when a minority is spotted in the area? It is comical yet sad how some of the gentry reacts to a black man walking down the street, a Hispanic pushing a lawnmower and asking if a resident has work for them makes them think they need to warn everyone in Oak Forest. Our neighborhood was just fine when the population had only 1,500 or less square footage and the widows outnumbered the couples and families in the neighborhood. Methinks these megamansion owners with their engineered wood and particleboard built homes are akin to pygmy shrews. They stay in front of their computers all day inside, scared to come outside. Of course, they have no back yard, either. Please consider a story showing this side of the coin. Preferably written by a minority. Thanks!
