More About

It was only two years ago that Houston lost one of its most critically acclaimed and beloved painters, Virgil Grotfeldt, to cancer. Even in his final months, he was creating innovative art, using magnetic resonance imaging scans of his brain taken during his treatments as the basis for his final pieces. Fans will enjoy his work anew in the exhibit “Cartography of the Spirit: Virgil Grotfeldt’s Explorations on the Mystical, the Magical, and the Sublime,” currently at Wade Wilson Art. Grotfeldt may have been born in Illinois, but he lived, worked and painted his fantastical, feverdream-like images right here in Houston. He also spearheaded the growth of the Houston Baptist University art department, where he was an associate art professor. Grotfeldt’s work has inspired and amazed art lovers in showings as far away as Holland and China. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Through November 26. 4411 Montrose. For information, call 713-521-2977 or visit www.wadewilsonart.com. Free.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Nov. 3. Continues through Nov. 26, 2011
