You’ll have to get up early if you want to participate in the third largest footrace in the city, the TXU Energy Turkey Trot (the race starts at 6 a.m.). The annual event benefits Sheltering Arms Senior Services, an organization dedicated to making sure that Houston’s elderly continue to live healthy, comfortable lives through consultations, home care and weekly phone check-ups. Participants may compete in a timed 5K or 10K race, or simply join in the noncompetitive fun run/walk. Stick around after you finish for a post-race party and wrap-up. 6 a.m. Dillard’s parking lot, 4925 Westheimer. For information, call 713-956-1888 or visit www.turkeytrot.shelteringarms.org. $10 to $35.
