More About

For anyone who has seen young Oklahoman John Fullbright sing his smarty-pants common-man songs and play guitar, accordion, harmonica, mandolin and about anything else he puts his hands or lips on, it won't come as too big a surprise that the favorite son of Okemah (Woody Guthrie's hometown) counts master songwriter Jimmy Webb as his biggest fan and frequent mentor. No one who encounters Fullbright in person is likely to forget songs like "Jericho," "Blameless" or "High Road," all of which come close to Mickey Newbury excellence in lyrical brilliance — "you take the high road to freedom / I'll take the low road to you" — and close to Guthrie in raspy Okie Dust Bowl plaint. Fullbright should fit fans of dry, earthily literate folkies à la Slaid Cleaves, Rod Picott and Gurf Morlix like old faded jeans.
