The late Eric Rohmer was a busy man. In addition to being the co-founder of French New Wave cinema (he directed more than 50 films), he was a celebrated novelist and critic. Two of his best loved films, Le Rayon vert (Summer) and 4 aventures de Reinette et Mirabelle (Four Adventures of Reinette and Mirabelle), are getting a weekend run at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Marie Rivère, one of Rohmer’s favorite actresses, stars in both.

Many consider the 1986 Le Rayon vert to be the best film Rohmer ever made. (Andrew Sarris, then film critic at our sister paper Village Voice, called it the best movie of the year.) Rivère appears as Delphine, a young woman who can’t find a man. She meets and rejects one after another; most seem to viewers to be perfectly suitable as companions, but she finds serious fault with them all.
4 aventures, released in 1987, features four episodes focused on two young women who are roommates in Paris and the series of offbeat characters they meet in their daily lives. La Rayon vert screens at 7 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday; 4 aventures screens at 7 p.m. Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet.
