We’re going to admit it right up front: Love, Actually is a chick flick. That shouldn’t be too big a surprise since the film is being screened as part of Girlie Night at the Alamo Drafthouse/West Oaks. The large ensemble cast features several leading men: Hugh Grant, Bill Nighy, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth and Billy Bob Thornton. The women in the cast include Emma Thompson, Laura Linney, Claudia Schiffer and Keira Knightley. The film, set at Christmas, interweaves several storylines — a bumbling British Prime Minister who falls for his secretary, a young newlywed woman who’s pursued by her husband’s best friend, a husband caught cheating on his wife, and budding love between two young school kids. Some stories turn out better than others — the Prime Minister and school boy both get their girls, while the cheating husband is put on a very short leash — but all of them show some touching, tender aspect of love (hence, the chick-flick element). 6:30 p.m. 1000 West Oaks.
