The show in Gruene on the 30th will be Colin Brooks last with BoH. I'll be out there visiting family and am planning on it. It'll be my third time seeing them there. They've gotten to be really great live.

The road-dogging, Austin-based Band of Heathens combines twangy, sandpaper vocals with hard-bought harmonies. The core trio in BOH — Colin Brooks, Ed Jurdi and Gordy Quist — began to coalesce about a decade ago around the singer-songwriter scene at Momo's in Austin, which explains the varied sounds in the group. This past March BOH released Top Hat Crown & The Clapmaster's Son and immediately set out onto the highway behind it, playing most every rootsy venue in Houston that we can think of, from Dosey Doe in The Woodlands to the Mucky Duck near Highway 59. This week the band descends on Fitzgerald's before ending the year in Dallas and New Braunfels. We can't think of a better way to end a tour than near the river. Make sure to get a quick taste of the band's live show by checking out their episode of Austin City Limits, which is floating around on YouTube in its entirety.
